A North Korean official warned on Tuesday that the US would face “unintended consequences” if Washington did not change their policy toward the country’s denuclearization, a report said.

The comments from North Korean First Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui were the latest rhetorical volley after a summit between Kim Jong-un and President Trump in Hanoi failed to produce a deal over nukes, according to South Korea’s Yonhap New Agency.

“Our resolution on denuclearization remains unchanged and we will put it into practice when the time comes,” Choe was quoted as saying by the Yonhap.

“But, it will only be possible when the US changes their current way of calculation and reestablishes its stance.”

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said last week that the ongoing nuclear talks with North Korea would be “bumpy” and “challenging” and hinted that the US stance could become more aggressive without a commitment from Pyongyang to dismantle their weapons.

“And if that breaks down, if that doesn’t happen, then we’ll have to, obviously, change paths,” Pompeo said in an interview with CBS.
