The National Security Council on Sunday night tried to dispel rumors of a national quarantine amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“Text message rumors of a national #quarantine are FAKE,” the NSC said in a tweet. “There is no national lockdown.”
A senior Trump administration official told Bloomberg that there’s an ongoing effort to stoke public panic about the coronavirus with the spread of misinformation.
In the US, as of early Monday, the coronavirus has infected about 3,500 people and killed 64.

State and local governments across the US have ramped up their efforts to curb the spread of the outbreak.
In New York City, for example, Mayor Bill de Blasio on Sunday closed public schools and limited bars and restaurants to takeout-only service.
The virus, which began in Wuhan, China, has spread across the globe in a matter of months.
