A contingent of cops from New York City paid their respects Tuesday to the three French officers killed during a terror rampage by Islamic militants.
The NYPD cops joined hundreds of mourners who watched as French President Francois Hollande posthumously awarded the slain officers the Legion of Honor — France’s highest tribute to civilians — by placing the medals on their flag-draped coffins.
“I express my gratitude and pride in you,” Hollande said during the emotional ceremony outside police headquarters in Paris.
“Thanks to you, France is still standing.”
The French cops were shot during a series of attacks last week by two brothers and a crony who have been linked to both al Qaeda and the Islamic State terror group. They were all gunned down by cops following their murderous missions.
The NYPD delegation also delivered a letter of condolence to the French National Police from NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton.
“When two New York City police officers were assassinated in December, police, in uniform, representing countries as far as western Europe, Australia, and New Zealand stood with us in formation,” Bratton said in a statement.
“The NYPD stands in Paris today at attention. When you kill a police officer anywhere in the free world, a little bit of society dies with them.”
The New York City cops also plan to meet with French law-enforcement officials to boost joint counter-terrorism efforts, the NYPD said.
