NYC sees record rainfall in Central Park as intense storm results in weekend washout

By Patrick Reilly

Saturday's storm has finally moved past the area -- but not before setting a New York City rainfall record, with more than 3.6 inches recorded in Central Park.

Saturday was the wettest March 23 ever recorded and the third wettest March day in Central Park, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Thompson.

The month has also been the sixth wettest March on record, with 8.24 inches already recorded in the park even with another week remaining.

The storm system finally began to blow out of the region in the evening. The tri-state area “will continue to dry out overnight until tomorrow" — with a breezy but sunny day expected in the afternoon, Fox New meteorologist Jordan Overton told The Post.

“Thankfully it was kind of spread out so it wasn't as intense with the flooding,” he said of the “strong coastal storm” —  though some bad flooding was recorded in parts of The Big Apple.

Desperate straphangers cross river of garbage on makeshift bridge at flooded NYC subway station

By David Spector

Desperate NYC straphangers did their best Indiana Jones impression to cross a flooded subway platform on a "bridge" made of wooden crates.

Riders at the 2nd Avenue F stop at the corner of East Houston and Allen streets found a giant puddle of rainwater filled with trash waiting for them when they descended the bottom of the stairs.

"The station's flooded?" an exasperated New Yorker can be heard asking as commuters step across two crates left in the garbage-strewn "river" and leap toward dry(ish) land.

"Oh, he goes to the Olympics" shouted one rider after a man jumped across both crates and headed to his train.

Residents are urged to avoid the river for 48 hours after the leak stops as it contains rainwater, partially treated and untreated sewage, the outlet added.
