LOVELOCK, Nev. — O.J. Simpson admitted to a parole board that he didn’t follow through with a promise to attend Alcoholics Anonymous, insisting that he “never had an alcohol problem.”
“My agenda was full,” Simpson said in explaining why he reneged on a 2013 promise to the parole board that he’d seek help for alcohol addiction.
At the beginning of the parole hearing in Nevada, the four-member parole board said Simpson was being assessed as having a substance abuse problem because the fact that he was tanked during the 2007 armed heist of sports memorabilia was a factor in his release.
Simpson admitted he had drinks the day he and a group of men stormed a Las Vegas hotel room to rob two memorabilia dealers — but only because he’d been celebrating a wedding beforehand.
“I had drinks that day but it was a wedding celebration. But I never had a substance problem at all,” he said.
A board member told Simpson, 70, that if he’s released, he might be ordered to steer clear of booze and not ever get drunk.
The Juice said it wouldn’t be a problem because he’s been dry for nearly nine years.
“Beyond a doubt” skipping alcohol would be OK, Simpson said. “I mean I (haven’t) been drinking for nine years and I haven’t missed it.”
