WASHINGTON — President Obama on Thursday described ISIS as a “brutal, vicious death cult” that commits “unspeakable acts of barbarism,” in some of his most emotionally charged rhetoric about the terror group.

Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast as the US is leading a coalition that includes Islamic governments battling ISIS, Obama blasted those who would “hijack religion for their own murderous ends.”

But he also reminded the audience that “during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.”
