President Obama suggested Wednesday that voting be mandatory for Americans, with fines for shirkers.
Speaking in Cleveland, Obama raised the idea of changing America’s voting system from voluntary to compulsory.
“I don’t think I’ve ever said this publicly, but I’m going to go ahead and say this now,” Obama said at the City Club of Cleveland. “In Australia and some other countries, there’s mandatory voting.
It would be transformative if everybody voted.”
“If everybody voted then it would completely change the political map in this country.”
