Kenya’s prodigal son was singing, “We are family!” — but, wait, are we?

Three dozen family members showed up to dine with President Obama on his first night in the East African nation — many of whom he never knew he had.

Those from the farther reaches of the family tree had to explain their ties, he said Saturday.

“There were lengthy explanations in some cases of the connections,” he said.

“Mostly, we were just catching up.”

He was seated between the two he knew best — his step-grandmother, Sarah Obama, whom he calls “Granny,” and his half-sister Auma Obama, whom he pulled into a warm embrace on the airport tarmac.

Obama made his first visit to Kenya some 30 years ago, when he was just a young man wearing “jeans and a backpack.”
