Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez criticized Chase Bank on Twitter Tuesday afternoon after the financial institution posted a message urging customers to be more thrifty.
“You: why is my balance so low,” Chase’s account wrote on Twitter on Monday, followed by a snarky set of supposed responses from a “bank account” alluding to reasons why people overspend, such “make coffee at home,” and “you don’t need a cab.”
“#MondayMotivation,” they added.
Ocasio-Cortez responded with a tweet of her own, highlighting how wage growth has lagged in recent decades.
“You: Why is my balance so low?” she wrote.
“Economists: Bc working Americans haven’t gotten a raise in 30 years despite unprecedented growth; & living costs have exploded.”
Ocasio-Cortez serves on the House Financial Services Committee, which has oversight over the nation’s largest banks and other financial institutions.
