An off-duty cop opened fire on a Philly driver who appeared to be intentionally plowing a car into pedestrians Monday, according to officials.
The driver hit one pedestrian and was trying to slam into others near the intersection of Broad and Bigler streets at about 7:30 a.m., Capt. Sekou Kinebrew of the Philadelphia Police Department said during a morning press conference.
He “was apparently attempting to run people over,” Kinebrew said.
A good Samaritan used a car to block the wild driver and then an unnamed, off-duty police captain confronted the man. A struggle ensued, and the cop whipped out his department-issued handgun and shot the driver in the head.
The pedestrian was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and the shot driver was transported in serious condition, which is slightly better than critical.
The driver was behind the wheel of a black Honda sedan, reporter KYW-TV reporter Chantee Lans tweeted.
