Dramatic video captures the moment four Ohio cops saved a woman who was trapped in her minivan that became half-submerged in the Mahoning River over the weekend.
The 24-year-old victim, who had just left work, fell asleep at the wheel as she drove along the 600 block of River Street in the city of Alliance around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, WKYC reported.
Her van went off the road, slammed into a guard rail and fell between 10 and 14 feet into the river, according to the report.
The driver pleaded for help in a desperate 911 call obtained by the outlet.
“Please hurry up,” she can be heard saying. “I’m so scared right now. I don’t know how to get out of here!”
Bodycam footage released by the local police department shows officers passing a tomahawk to another who is already in the water.
He can be heard telling his colleague, “I can’t breathe” because of the cold water.
Temperatures in the area were just above the freezing mark that night.
Thankfully, officers were able to break out a van window and pull the woman to land — just before the van became completely submerged.
The woman was treated and released for minor injuries, and no officers were hurt, according to the local report.
Police credited Officers Tussey, Tallman, Amabeli and McCord for the rescue.
