An Ohio fugitive was busted on Tuesday for the brutal beating death of a 1-year-old boy, authorities said.
Latrell Wilson, 38, was arrested for the fatal beating in January that left the child with broken ribs and head trauma, according to the Summit County coroner’s office.
Wilson had been on the lam since the Jan. 27 attack. US Marshals arrested Wilson Tuesday at his job in Akron.
“Killing a helpless and innocent child is a horrific crime,” US Marshal Pete Elliot said in a statement. “Arresting this fugitive and bringing justice to the family was at the top of our priority list.”
The cause of death was from either a beating or smothering, Akron police said. Authorities said Wilson was the only person with the baby when he died and named him as a suspect in the homicide.
Wilson pleaded not guilty in court Thursday, according to Cleveland 19 News. Bail was set at $1 million for the unspecified homicide charge, WKYC reported.
It’s unclear what his connection was to the toddler, who was not identified by authorities.
