Bonnie Franklin, who helped transform TV’s portrayal of the American family in the long-running sitcom “One Day at a Time,” died yesterday. She was 69.

Franklin succumbed to complications from pancreatic cancer that was disclosed in September, her family said.

The Santa Monica, Calif.- born redhead was a show-business veteran — including an appearance at age 12 in the Alfred Hitchcock film “Wrong Man” and a Tony-nominated stint on Broadway in the musical “Applause” — before she was cast as Ann Romano in the CBS series.

The show broke with the sitcom formula by focusing on Franklin as a divorced, working mom dealing with two headstrong daughters, played by Mackenzie Phillips and Valerie Bertinelli.

The Norman Lear-developed show dealt with issues not even hinted at in the “Leave it to Beaver” era of TV, including premarital sex and sexual harassment.
