At least one person was wounded when a man opened fire at a Shreveport, Louisiana, hospital early Wednesday, according to reports.

The suspect, identified as Taniel Cole, 41, entered the Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport – St. Mary Medical Center about 5:30 a.m. and allegedly shot someone he knew in the leg, KTAL-TV reported.

A SWAT team and hostage negotiators responded to the scene, where they were searching for the suspect in the building.

Police Sgt. Angie Willhite, who described the incident as an active shooting situation, said the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to KSLA-TV.

Willhite added that the gunman may have left the hospital on foot or by vehicle.

Residents in the Highland neighborhood were asked to remain inside their homes.
