One person was killed and two were injured when a small plane crashed in a remote area of Olympic National Park in Washington, officials said.

The Murphy SR3500 Moose was carrying three passengers when it crashed on a forested, steep slope in the Quinault area just north of the Irely Lake Trailhead around 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Park Service.

“Rangers immediately coordinated a response with Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Search and Rescue,” park officials said in a statement.

“Three occupants of the plane – a Murphy SR3500 Moose – were transported to a Level 1 Trauma Center.”

One person died in the crash, with the other two treated for their injuries. Authorities have not identified the victims.

The cause of the crash remains unknown, and the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.

The deadly incident comes more than a month after a Waco, Texas, teen toppled from a 50-foot waterfall and plummeted to his death in the northwest corner of the Washington state park.

Grant Herridge was walking on the rocks at the top of the waterfalls at the Sol Duc Falls when he slipped and fell into the pool of water below on June 8, according to park officials

Park rangers rushed to the fatal site but didn’t discover the Vanguard College Preparatory graduate’s body until the next day, completely submerged and pinned under the water between the two falls.

“Grant was doing what he loved, hiking through Olympic National Park, and had a tragic accident,” his grieving father wrote in a gut-wrenching Facebook post.

“He was always so full of life and we are going to honor him by living life to the fullest in the future. Please continue to pray for us as we struggle to live life without him.”
