Two Tennessee sixth-graders were busted in an elaborate school shooting plot that included stashing weapons in a locker room, opening fire on fellow students and then killing themselves on the last day of classes.
The unnamed pair of students, who attended South Cumberland Elementary School in Crossville, allegedly drew up a detailed map of how to pull off the massacre by slipping through a back door, grabbing hidden guns and shooting teachers and students, police said, according to ABC News.
A school resource officer first reported the two sixth-graders last week after hearing a rumor that they had drafted a “hit list” complete with names of kids they planned to murder, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the Crossville Police Department.
Investigators didn’t find that list, but did unearth “multiple conversations” between the two students in which they allegedly planned the school shooting in detail, officials said, according to the station.
Authorities found no weapons at the school or in the students’ homes and said nobody was in immediate danger.
The elementary school pair were charged with conspiracy to commit murder and were jailed at a juvenile detention center, police said. The parents of the students have been assisting school administrators and law enforcement in the investigation.
