A delegation visiting Israel that included members of the New York state Assembly had to be evacuated from a think tank in Ramallah on Thursday after Palestinians protested, pelting them with eggs and holding anti-American signs.

“Nothing like this has ever happened to us,” said David Pollock, associate executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council, which sponsored the mission.

The delegation was meeting with a leading Palestinian social scientist, Dr. Khalil Shikaki, when protesters entered at the end of the presentation in the West Bank city.

More demonstrators gathered outside, but Palestinian security forces showed up and escorted the delegation away in a van.

“When the Palestinian officers showed up, they were very professional. They handled it well,” Pollock said.
