An Israel soldier cries out at a West Bank gas station on Monday (gallery, above) after her comrade was fatally stabbed there by a Palestinian man, in one of three knife attacks to rattle the region in less than 24 hours.

Pvt. Ziv Mizrahi, an 18-year-old driver in a surveillance-balloon unit, had been at the gas station north of Jerusalem with a female soldier when he was attacked, The Jerusalem Post reported.

The attacker, Ahmad Taha of the West Bank village of Qatanna, approached them before pouncing, Israeli TV stations reported. He was shot dead by soldiers posted nearby.

Two women, including a soldier in her 20s, suffered minor injuries.

Mizrahi had been waiting at the gas station for help after getting into a car accident.

On Sunday afternoon, a Palestinian man fatally stabbed an Israeli woman, Hadar Buchris, 21, before being killed by soldiers at the Gush Etzion junction in the West Bank.

Also Monday, two teenage Palestinian girls used scissors to stab an elderly man they mistook for an Israeli in central Jerusalem. A security guard killed one and critically wounded the other.

The victim, who was lightly injured, was actually a Palestinian.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Monday that he would be beefing up security in the West Bank in light of the continuing attacks.
