A Colorado mom was fatally shot in the head while sitting in her Land Rover SUV — and two teenagers have been charged with murder in connection to the reportedly unprovoked attack.
Pamela Cabriales was sitting in her Land Rover at West Colfax and I-25 about 10:45 p.m. Feb. 20 when a person standing next to a Honda sedan fired a gun six times into her SUV before taking off, the Denver Post reported.
Cabriales, 32, was rushed to Denver Health Medical Center in “extremely critical” condition, according to a probable cause statement.
The mother of a 6-year-old boy died several days later.
The following day, the 14-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man identified as Neshan Johnson were arrested after police Officer Katie Phillips recognized the Honda from a previous shooting at a McDonald’s restaurant on Feb. 19, according to the paper.
Phillips chased the vehicle until it crashed into a pole on Tejon Street, knocking a fire hydrant down, according to the probable cause statement.
A gun was fired six times into Pamela Cabriales’ Land Rover SUV. Facebook“DPD Metro SWAT and K-9 units searched the area and found Johnson hiding in a nearby shed,” police said in a statement. “The alleged shooter and another male juvenile were also arrested.”
Police recovered 16 rounds of ammunition and a shell casing in the shed where Johnson hid. The Honda also had two AR-15 rifles “in plain view,” officials said.
The 14-year-old was charged with first-degree murder, criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder with extreme indifference, criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault with extreme indifference and two counts of the sentencing-enhancing charge of being an aggravated juvenile offender.

Johnson, the alleged driver, was charged with first-degree murder, criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder with extreme indifference, criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault with extreme indifference and one count of vehicular eluding.
The DA’s office has not announced any charges against the third suspect.
