A task force voted yesterday to demolish the Newtown, Conn., elementary school where a madman gunned down 20 kids and six staffers last year, and build a new school on the site.

The 28-member panel considered three alternatives: renovating Sandy Hook Elementary School, demolishing it and building a new school on the site or tearing it down and building a new school nearby.

The panel’s recommendation will now go to the local school board and ultimately go before town voters in a referendum.

Adam Lanza killed his mother at home, entered the school and opened fire with an assault rifle on Dec. 14. He killed himself as police arrived.
