A desperate search is underway in Iowa after a 13-year-old boy walked out of his home hours after a fight with his parents, police said.
Corey Brown, of Marshalltown, was last seen wearing a Seattle Seahawks cap, a red shirt and black pants around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Jackie Terrace. Authorities in the central Iowa town are asking all property owners to search private and commercial addresses for the teen, who remained missing as of early Friday, a police source confirmed to The Post.
Corey was spotted on the family’s home security system walking away from his home hours after he was scolded and his parents took away his cellphone as punishment, Police Chief Mike Tupper told reporters during a news conference late Thursday, the Des Moines Register reports.
“It’s a typical interaction with a 13-year-old child, nothing extraordinary,” Tupper said. “But he reacted emotionally to that.”
Tupper said he was growing increasingly concerned with how long Corey had been missing and asked property owners to check garages, sheds and vehicles in case the teen sought refuge from a snowstorm that moved into the area earlier this week.
“At this time, it’s a missing-person case so we’re considering all possibilities,” Tupper told reporters. “We have no evidence to believe a crime has occurred but we’re looking at all scenarios.”
Search efforts for Corey were hampered late Thursday by subfreezing temperatures and blustery winds, KCCI reports. The teen’s family is pleading for the public’s help in finding their son and bringing him home safely.
Facebook“Corey, if you’re out there, bud, you’re not in trouble,” father Craig Brown told the station. “Just come home. And if anybody has any information, you’re not going to get in trouble either. Just call the Marshalltown Police Department. I love you, bud.”
A message seeking comment from Tupper was not immediately returned Friday.
Counselors were made available Thursday for students at Marshalltown High School, where Corey is in the eighth grade, KCCO reports.
“The school district has contacted all of our parents through email, saying if you see him, contact the police department,” school district spokesman Andrew Potter told the station. “We’re trying to do our part to help out in any way we can. He has a big smile, and we want to see that again.”
Anyone with information about the boy’s whereabouts is asked to call police at (641) 754-5725.
