House Speaker Paul Ryan on Tuesday condemned the shooting of a fellow GOP lawmaker — and declared that Congress was united in its response to the “dreadful attack.”

“An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us,” Ryan said to sustained applause in the Capitol.

He also praised the heroism of the Capitol Police, who shot and killed the gunman, identified as Illinois resident James T. Hodgkinson, 66, an anti-Trump zealot.
