Vice President Mike Pence says he blames the Air Force, in addition to the gunman, for the church massacre in Texas last weekend.

Speaking Wednesday outside the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, where the shooting happened, Pence blasted military officials for making “bureaucratic failures” that allowed Devin Patrick Kelley to purchase the weapon he used, despite having a prior arrest for assault.

“We will find out why this information was not properly reported in 2012 and we are working with leaders in Congress to ensure this never happens again,” Pence said, noting how the Air Force admitted that it failed to enter Kelley’s arrest information into the federal background check system.

“He lied on his application. He had a history of mental illness, and there were bureaucratic failures.”

Joined by his wife and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Pence went on to describe how Kelley used the mistakes made by Air Force officials to unleash his “evil” on churchgoers.

“Three days ago, evil descended on this small town,” Pence said. “Faith is stronger than evil…No attack and no act of violence will ever diminish the strength of the American people.”

Pence’s trip to First Baptist on Wednesday was almost put on hold when reports came in of another shooting nearby.

Dozens of cops and federal agents swarmed the small Texas town of Sutherland Spring, located about 40 miles away from San Antonio, after a man opened fire near a nursing home about a mile away. Authorities eventually gave all the clear and Pence arrived a short time later.
