A bus accident Wednesday in the northern Peruvian region of Pataz left at least 20 dead and 33 injured, local authorities said.
Regional Health Management (GERESA) reported that a bus operated by the Picaflor Tours company went off the road and fell down a ravine.
An unidentified Picaflor Tours worker told local news the accident was the result of poor road conditions. “For a long time, the roads in the mountain range have been in a very bad state.”
Victims were taken to the nearby Tayabamba hospital.
Pataz mayor Omar Iparraguirre said municipal and regional authorities were working together to “solve the problem.”
