ANGELS CAMP, Calif. — The owner of a Northern California pet boarding business is facing charges after being accused of killing a customer’s three dogs.

KTXL-TV reports that Pet Bath House owner Vonna Hughes was arrested Saturday on several animal cruelty charges.

The station reports Hughes had called the dogs’ owner saying she was hurt when the animals were fighting.

Angels Camp police say Hughes asked the owners to pay for the damages, but she did not report the incident to animal services.

Police say days later, Hughes called the owner and said the dogs were dead.

Angels Camp Police accuse Hughes of illegally euthanizing the dogs. The bodies of the dogs have not been found.

Police allege Hughes had an accomplice to help her “take care of them.”
