The battle of the mayors eyeing the White House is no contest, according to Preet Bharara.
“Not endorsing anyone for POTUS, but @PeteButtigieg > @BilldeBlasio,” the former US attorney for the Southern District of New York tweeted Saturday. He was using the mathematical “greater-than” symbol to signal his admiration for the mayor of South Bend, Ind.—or perhaps his disdain for New York City’s top elected official.
Hizzoner is expected to join the throng of Democratic presidential candidates next week, despite little obvious support from voters in early-primary states—or even in his own. Buttigieg, who announced his candidacy last month, has surged in recent polls.
Meanwhile on the campaign trail, hecklers shouted homophobic slogans at Buttigieg at an event in Texas on Friday night.
They yelled “marriage is between a man and a woman” and “repent” at Buttigieg, who is openly gay, according to CNN.
The outbursts came at a dinner held by the Dallas County Democratic Party.
One of the hecklers was seen on a video posted to Twitter being taken out of the forum.
Former Texas congressman Beto O’Rourke, one of Buttigieg’s rivals, came to his defense. “Texans don’t stand for this kind of homophobia and hatred,” O’Rourke tweeted. “Mayor Pete, we are grateful you came to Texas.”
