Assisted suicide will soon be legal in New Jersey.
Gov. Phil Murphy (D) signed off on a right-to-die law Friday, though he expressed moral qualms about the measure.
“While my faith may lead me to a particular decision for myself, as a public official I cannot deny this alternative to those who may reach a different conclusion,” Murphy, who is Catholic, wrote in a signing statement.
The law, which takes effect on Aug. 1, will let patients request and self-administer lethal doses of drugs if their doctors have told them they have less than six months to live.
It makes New Jersey the seventh state in the nation to permit assisted suicide, The Hill reported.
