This engagement was a riot.

A Philadelphia man shocked his girlfriend during ongoing protests over the deadly police shooting of Walter Wallace — getting down on one knee and proposing in front of a line of cops brandishing riot shields.

Maurice Small, 32, was still holding a cigarette in his hand when he made his romantic gesture in the City of Brotherly Love, asking his girlfriend of eight years, Tanesha Pennington, for her hand in marriage Tuesday night.

Protesters broke into cheers and cries of “Congratulations” as the couple hugged — with video footage panning around to show more than a dozen officers holding shields to block a nearby intersection.

Showing off her ring, Pennington started a chant of “Black lives matter,” according to video shared by the Philadelphia Inquirer.

“My name is Tanesha Pennington, but it’s gonna be Tanesha Small!” the excited bride-to-be said, according to Jason Peters, a local podcaster who also filmed the proposal.

The bizarre moment sparked a lot of shocked reactions on Twitter — as well as some congratulations.

“Romance is not dead. It’s a little odd, but it isn’t dead,” one of Peters’ followers wrote.
