It took half a decade and loads of determination, but a devoted photographer has finally captured the image he’s been dreaming of — a jet’s vapor cone while it travels at the speed of sound!

Joe Broyles spent five years trying to snap the remarkable midair shot of an F-18 Super Hornet 2 flying overhead, Caters News Agency reports.

The remarkable photo was almost impossible to take due to the lightning-quick speed at which the aircraft moves, but thanks to his iron will, he has finally done it.

The cone — which lasts just tenths of a second — is created when the jet reaches transonic velocity of 766 mph, or the speed of sound, according to Caters.

The amazing picture was photographed at the Oceania Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
