A man was arrested for driving his pick-up truck into a group of protesters outside a courthouse in Portland, Oregon — striking one person, cops said
Mark Dickerson, 55, was busted Wednesday on charges of assault and reckless endangerment for steering his truck into a demonstration against a grand jury decision not to indict police officers for fatally shooting a 27-year-old man, according to Portland Police.
The assembled protesters included family and friends of shooting victim Patrick Kimmons — who cops claim was running toward them with a gun when they fired on him.
“Officers recognized that demonstrators were distraught about the loss of a loved one and the officers attempted to provide direction to the protesters without enflaming the situation,” Portland Police said in a statement.
“While officers continued to communicate with the crowd and direct them to the sidewalk, the driver of a dark blue Chevrolet 2500 pick-up traveled north on Southwest 4th Avenue into the crowd of people and struck a protester.”
One person was struck, but refused medical attention.
Dickerson claimed that he was trying to park near the courthouse when a man jumped in front of his vehicle.
