Lifeguards were caught on camera rushing to save the pilot of a small plane that crashed off the shore of a New Hampshire beach.

Emergency crews responded to Hampton Beach, about 20 minutes south of Portsmouth, after the plane crashed close to shore shortly after noon Saturday, the Hampton Fire Department said.

Footage obtained by Boston 25 shows beachgoers looking at the plane’s tail jutting out from the water.

Moments later, lifeguards rushed into the waves to help the pilot, who was the only person on board the aircraft at the time.
