A pilot was killed after crashing in the parking lot of a Texas shopping center Tuesday, just feet away from the front door of a popular diner.

The downed single-engine Mooney M20 burst into flames just before 6 p.m. outside of Mama’s Daughter’s Diner and Nail Addiction in the Midway Park neighborhood of Plano, a city 20 miles north of Dallas.

The plane did not land on or collide with anything upon crashing, but the inferno jumped onto a nearby parked car, Plano fire officials said. Luckily, no one was inside the vehicle.

Only the pilot was on board, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed.

The Air Park-Dallas Airport is less than a half mile from the crash site.

The plane had taken off from the single-runway airport just moments before the crash, sources told WFAA.

Witnesses said the plane took a sharp nosedive before plummeting into the parking lot.
