A plane crashed into a neighborhood near a California high school, killing at least two people as it burst into a fireball and destroyed two houses Monday, officials said.
The C340 twin-engine Cessna scattered debris for an entire block in the city of Santee, also hitting a delivery truck and fire hydrant, authorities said.
At least two other people have been hospitalized, but their conditions weren’t known Monday evening, the city said on its official Twitter feed.

“Yeah, we just heard a deafening crash and I saw this huge fireball,” one Twitter user wrote.
“The fire department is on the way;” the witness added, along with a photo of huge flames and black smoke pouring from a garage in a nearby residence on North Magnolia Avenue. “I’m praying no one was inside but nobody knows for sure.”

At least two people were taken to the hospital, according to Fox 5 San Diego.
At least one building appeared to be completely destroyed, according to NBC 7 San Diego.
No children at the nearby Santana High School were injured, the school said on social media.
“All students are Secure,” the post stated. “There was a plane crash 2 or three blocks away. We are currently in a ‘Secure Campus.’”
