California police are asking the public to help identify a young girl wearing a pink “Future Princess Hero” shirt who was found dead in a suitcase near a popular hiking trail in Los Angeles.

Homicide detectives from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department released a sketch of the girl at a press conference Wednesday and described the Jane Doe as between the ages of 8 and 13, about 4 feet 5 inches tall, 55 pounds and with black skin.

She was discovered near an equestrian trail in the Hacienda Heights area at 10 a.m. local time Tuesday in a roll-away black duffel bag, LA County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Hoglund told reporters at the press conference, where he also showed a picture of the luggage. Her head and upper body were sticking out of the partially zipped luggage, Hoglund said.

The girl, wearing the pink, long-sleeve shirt and pants with a panda print, was described as “small in nature,” Hoglund went on.

Investigators didn’t find any signs of trauma on the girl’s body and are waiting for an autopsy report to determine the cause and manner of her death, he said.

“At this point, we don’t have any leads. We don’t have any idea of who this child is,” Hoglund said, calling the case “horrible” and “tragic.”

He believes the child was left in the area Sunday and has asked anyone with information to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau.
