A Massachusetts police dog tracked a missing child for miles in freezing weather –and ultimately helped authorities reunite the preteen with their family.

The 12-year-old – who has not been named publicly – was reported missing after leaving their home around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Auburn Police Department said.

The K9, Biza, picked up the child’s scent and tracked it “for a length of over two miles” to an area where evidence indicated the 12-year-old had been a short time before, the department explained.

On Wednesday, the temperatures in the Auburn area hovered around a high of 31 and a low of 23 degrees.

“Officers converged on this area and located the child a short time later. The child was reunited with their family and is safe,” the official statement read.

The department included a photo of Biza looking playful in the snow.

“We are proud of the hard work put in by K9 Biza and are happy to report a positive outcome!” the announcement concluded.
