A Chicago police officer died Monday night, just hours after he was shot by a gunman who opened fire in a hospital.

Officer Samuel Jimenez was fatally shot at Mercy Hospital after a man went there and gunned down his former fiancee.

“It’s with profound sadness that we share the death of PO Samuel Jimenez from tonight’s senseless active shooter incident,” Chicago police said in a tweet.

“Please pray for his family, his fellow officers & the entire #ChicagoPolice Department.”

The gunman killed his former fiancee, who was a doctor at the hospital, and two others, including the officer, around 3:30 p.m.

He was then fatally shot by cops.
