Police searching for a British woman who was reportedly last seen aboard her boyfriend’s catamaran in the US Virgin Islands are now unsure whether she had even been on the luxury vessel before vanishing, according to a report.

“Investigators cannot confirm with certainty, if and when Ms. Heslop boarded the Siren Song on March 7,” the Virgin Islands Police Department said, the BBC reported.

The statement is the latest twist in the mysterious disappearance of Sarm Heslop, 41, whom Ryan Bane, 44, reported missing 10 hours after he reportedly noticed the former flight attendant missing from his 47-foot-long craft.

Bane has invoked his right to remain silent and the catamaran was said to have left its mooring on Wednesday amid the ongoing search-and-rescue operation.

“To the knowledge of investigators, Mr. Bane remains in the Territory,” VIPD spokesman Toby Derima said in response to reports that the boyfriend had sailed away from the area, according to the news outlet.

“His whereabouts are known by law enforcement,” he added.

The US Coast Guard has reportedly issued Bane a citation — a record of an alleged violation – for refusing to allow law enforcement aboard his vessel to investigate Heslop’s disappearance.

Heslop was believed to have gone to dinner with Bane on March 7 and to have returned to the yacht, where she supposedly went to bed. Her possessions, including her bank cards and mobile phone, were still onboard when she vanished.

Police said the investigation into her disappearance is being assisted by the FBI and UK police, who were “finding and interviewing witnesses,” the BBC reported.
