Democratic nominee Joe Biden and President Trump were in a close race in the battle for critical swing state Ohio on Tuesday night with a majority of the vote in, according to voter returns.
Trump was leading Biden by about three percentage points with 72 percent of expected votes counted in the state, which the president carried in his victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016.
Biden was pulling ahead in urban areas of the state, including Columbus, Cincinnati, Akron and Cleveland, according to the voter returns.
Ohio, which has 18 electoral votes, has long been considered a bellwether in presidential elections: No Republican candidate has lost it and gone on to capture the White House.

The election was still a toss-up around 9 p.m. Tuesday, with critical swing states like Pennsylvania, Florida and Ohio too early or too close to call.
