, which makes it worth noting just how little Steele knows.

It’s not just that Steele compiled that infamous “dossier” as opposition research for the Beltway smear merchants of Fusion GPS — with the bills paid by the Clinton campaign and the Democratic Party.

No: It’s that Steele didn’t even do much, and possibly most, of the actual research.

As Paul Sperry reported in these pages, Steele never went to Russia to talk directly to the various sources dishing dirt on then-candidate Donald Trump. He left that to others, including another Fusion employee, translator Edward Baumgartner. And Baumgartner was also working on a Putin-friendly Fusion job along with the Russian lawyer from the Trump Tower meeting.

Steele was just the last man in a long conduit for hearsay allegations, none yet independently verified. His claims are the stuff of clickbait headlines, nothing more.
