Ousted FBI chief James Comey on Thursday said it was up to the special counsel investigating Russian meddling in the election – and not him — to decide whether President Trump obstructed justice by asking him to deep six a part of the probe.

“I don’t think it’s for me to say whether the conversation I had with the president was an effort to obstruct. I took it as a very disturbing thing, very concerning, but that’s a conclusion I’m sure the special counsel will work towards to find out the intention and whether that’s an offense,” he told a Senate Committee.

Ex-FBI director Robert Mueller was appointed by the Justice Department to oversee the criminal probe.

He also said that no votes had been changed as a result of the Russians meddling in the election and that Trump never told him to stop the probe.

He told a Senate committee that he understood that he could be fired, but that the shifting explanations offered by Team Trump defamed and confused him because the president had told him he was doing a great job.
