The chair of the House tax writing committee said Tuesday that ending the ObamaCare mandate that Americans buy health insurance — an element of the Senate bill — is a move his colleagues would likely accept.

Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas), head of the Ways and Means Committee, commented as Senate Republican leaders pushed to pass their bill this week, giving corporations a huge tax cut and reducing rates for most Americans, at least temporarily.

Their bill would eventually have to be reconciled with the tax measure recently passed by the House.

Brady had previously said that repealing the so-called individual mandate under the Affordable Care Act was politically risky.

But he told the pro-business American Enterprise Institute that “the House has always been strongly supportive of eliminating that forced tax.”

“We’re going to let the Senate process go forward, encourage the Senate to deliver a good pro-growth product,” he said.
