Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin are close to reaching a deal on a $2 trillion coronavirus aid package, both said.

“We look forward to having a deal tomorrow,” Mnuchin told reporters outside Schumer’s office late Monday.

“That’s the expectation — that we finish it tomorrow and hopefully vote on it tomorrow evening,” Schumer (D-NY) added.

Mnuchin and Schumer said they spoke by phone with President Trump throughout the night of negotiations and that they had resolved most issues in the legislation.

Schumer described Trump’s response to the package as “very positive,” despite his late-night tweet slamming Democrats’ response to the virus.

Earlier Monday, Senate Democrats blocked a cloture vote that would have allowed a $1.8 trillion coronavirus stimulus package to advance for a full vote in the upper chamber.

The vote to end debate on the massive package failed because 60 votes were needed and just one Democrat, Alabama’s Doug Jones, voted aye, with the final tally 49-46.
