The cancellation of President Trump’s visit to Denmark came as “a surprise” to the Danish royal palace, a spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Trump nixed the trip after Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen slammed his plan to buy Greenland as “an absurd discussion.”

“Denmark is a very special country with incredible people, but based on Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s comments, that she would have no interest in discussing the purchase of Greenland, I will be postponing our meeting scheduled in two weeks for another time,” Trump tweeted Tuesday night.

The president was slated to visit Denmark Sept. 2 and 3 as part of a European trip.
