PHILADELPHIA — New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has called Donald Trump “the great pretender” in remarks at the Democratic National Convention.

De Blasio was slow to endorse Clinton during the primary race, but on Wednesday told his fellow Democrats gathered in Philadelphia that she is the clear choice this November.

He compared her life in public service to Trump’s business career, calling the Republican nominee a selfish billionaire who doesn’t care about working Americans.

De Blasio called Clinton “smart,” ”steady” and “ready” for the presidency, but dismissed Trump as “reckless… risky… wrong… and scary.”

The mayor’s comments came during an early evening speaking slot on Wednesday, a few hours before the prime time speeches began.
