Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan called Day One of the Democratic National Convention to a close a little before 12:30 a.m.

Following his speech, President Biden was joined on stage by Vice President Kamala Harris.

CHICAGO – President Biden said he made a "lot of mistakes" during his 50-year plus career, but that he "gave his best" in his concluding remarks at the DNC.

He quoted a song his family likes called "American Anthem."

"There's one verse that stands out, and I can't sing where the dance I'm not going to try. I'll just quote it. The work and prayers of centuries have brought us to this day. What shall our legacy? Our legacy be? What will our children say? Let me know in my heart what my days are through America, America, I gave my best to you."

"I made a lot of mistakes in my career, but I gave my best to you," Biden went on.

He also joked that he was "too old to stay as president."

Former President Donald Trump claimed Monday that Vice President Kamala Harris has opted against participating in a Fox News debate next month. 

“Comrade Kamala Harris has just informed us that she will NOT do the FoxNews Debate on September 4th,” the Republican nominee for president wrote on Truth Social. 

The vice president’s apparent decision to turn down the debate didn’t shock Trump. 

“I am not surprised by this development because I feel that she knows it is very difficult, at best, for her to defend her record setting Flip-Flopping on absolutely everything she once believed in, including her statements that THERE WILL BE NO FRACKING IN PENNSYLVANIA and her HORRIBLE Performance on the Border, our “Border Czar,” where millions of criminals and people from mental institutions and terrorists, have been allowed to pour into our Country, totally unchecked and unvetted,” the former president wrote. 

Trump further revealed that instead of doing the debate, he will now hold a “Tele-Town Hall, anchored by Sean Hannity, for Fox.”

“It will take place in the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania - Details to follow!” 

Trump and Harris have both agreed to participate in a Sept. 10 debate that will air on ABC.

CHICAGO — Mostly out of view for the feed showing on the jumbotron, first son Hunter Biden emerged from backstage after his father finished up his speech.

Hunter came onstage alongside the first family, including his step-mother, First Lady Jill Biden, and sister, Ashley Biden.

Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff also took the stage to embrace the president.

CHICAGO -- Hunter Biden was seen backstage at the DNC with his father before President Biden delivered his remarks.

Hunter was not seated on the convention floor with the president's other family members, including Naomi Biden and her husband Peter Neal, Maisy Biden holding baby Beau Biden, Hunter's wife Melissa Cohen, granddaughters Finnegan Biden, Natalie Biden and grandson Hunter Biden, along with Ashley Biden's husband Howard Krein.

Biden's daughter Ashley Biden delivered remarks on stage about their family before the president took the stage.

Hunter Biden was also spotted seated near to his father when he delivered Oval Office remarks after stepping away from the 2024 race.

CHICAGO – President Biden revealed the best decision of his five-decade career in politics – selecting Kamala Harris as vice president.

"Selecting Kamala was the very first decision I made when I became our nominee, and it was the best decision I made in my whole career," he said.

"Her story represents the best American story. And like many of our best presidents, she was also vice president," he added.

CHICAGO — After chants of "Thank you Joe" broke out again, President Biden nudged the crowd to thank Vice President Kamala Harris.

"Thank you, Kamala" he gently replied.

Chants of "Thank you Joe" have been commonplace throughout the night.

CHICAGO – President Biden broached the elephant in the room – or rather, several blocks away from the stage.

"We'll keep working to bring hostages home and end the war in Gaza and bring peace and security to the Middle East," Biden declared.

"Those folks down the street have a point: a lot of innocent people are being killed on both sides," he added.

Anti-Israel protesters have stormed the streets outside the convention, railing against Biden for supporting the Jewish state. Some of them breached the security perimeter outside the United Center where the speakers delivered their addresses tonight, prompting law enforcement to push them back.

CHICAGO — The age-old joke.

President Biden quipped about his age while bashing former President Donald Trump for grumbling about the nation's standing abroad.

"I know more foreign leaders' names and know them better than anyone alive – that's because I'm so damn old," Biden said.

“Think of the message he sends around the world when he talks about America being a failing nation. He says we’re losing. He's the loser! He’s dead wrong,” Biden continued.

CHICAGO – In a jab at his predecessor, President Biden credited himself for heralding an "infrastructure decade."

"Donald Trump promised infrastructure week every week for four years, and he never built a damn thing," Biden chided. "Right now we're giving America an infrastructure decade – not week. We're modernizing ... our bridges, our ports."

Biden signed a bipartisan infrastructure bill in 2021.

President Biden decried political violence in his Democratic National Convention speech Monday before slamming supporters of former President Donald Trump who rioted on Jan. 6, 2021. 

Recalling his Inauguration Day nearly four years ago, Biden said, “In front of me was a city surrounded by the National Guard, behind me a Capitol that two weeks before was overrun by a violent mob.” 

“But I knew then from the bottom of my heart what I know now – there is no place in America for political violence,” he declared. “You cannot say you love your country only when you win.”

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi held up a "We love Joe" sign -- and chanted the phrase -- during President Biden's Democratic National Convention speech on Monday.

Pelosi reportedly spoke to Biden before he decided to drop out of the presidential race in July, paving the way for Vice President Kamala Harris to become the Democrats' new nominee.
