Donald Trump Jr. said Tuesday that he’d been cautioned that his Twitter posts were “getting a little hot” — by the tweeter-in-chief himself, President Trump.
“There were a couple of times,” the younger Trump said on “Fox & Friends.”
“You know, I realized, it took me 41 years to realize that I was probably a lot more like him than we ever thought. And, you know, backed in a corner, we fight,” he said.
“But every once in a while, I get that call like, ‘Hey, you’re getting a little hot on social.’”
Trump Jr. — who has four million followers compared to his father’s 66.6 million — appeared on the show to hawk his new book, “Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us.”
He then re-enacted a conversation with his father — pretending his hand was a phone as he held it up to an ear to take a call from the White House.
“‘This is the White House operator. The president would like to speak to you,’” he said.
“‘Don, getting a little hot,’” he said the president had told him.
He acknowledged there was no small irony in his father’s request despite the president’s penchant for firing off incendiary tweets attacking his perceived enemies, calling his advice “amazing.”

“But I was like, this may be the one place where I’m just going to say, ‘I’m on my own, and maybe you don’t have the authority to start talking about this.’”
Trump Jr. will take his book tour to less friendly territory on Thursday when he appears on ABC’s “The View.”
The hosts generally take a dim view of the president, especially Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Sen. John McCain, a regular Trump punching bag both before and after his death.
