Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday weighed in on the Academy Awards that critics lambasted as too “woke” and which attracted its smallest TV audience in history, suggesting it ditch its current formula and “BRING BACK A GREAT HOST.”

“What used to be called The Academy Awards, and now is called the ’Oscars’ — a far less important and elegant name — had the lowest Television Ratings in recorded history, even much lower than last year, which set another record low,” Trump said in a statement from his office.

“If they keep with the current ridiculous formula, it will only get worse — if that’s possible. Go back 15 years, look at the formula they then used, change the name back to THE ACADEMY AWARDS, don’t be so politically correct and boring, and do it right. ALSO, BRING BACK A GREAT HOST,” the former commander-in-chief said.

He said the broadcast has become too political.

“These television people spend all their time thinking about how to promote the Democrat Party, which is destroying our Country, and cancel Conservatives and Republicans. That formula certainly hasn’t worked very well for The Academy!,” said Trump, a former TV reality star.

Fewer than 10 million people tuned in to ABC’s Sunday night broadcast of the Oscars – the smallest TV audience in its history.

Ratings plunged to nearly 60 percent from last year.

Critics blasted the broadcast, once a must-see TV event, for being too preachy, for lacking a host and for failing to show enough clips of the movies up for awards as it did in years past.

Late night talk show comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who hosted the Oscars in 2017 and 2018, wondered: “How can something so woke put so many people to sleep?”

“Speaking of elaborate funerals, did you watch the Oscars last night? Not many people did. The ratings for the Oscars plummeted from 23 million last year to less than 10 million this year,” he said during the monologue on his show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Monday night.
