WASHINGTON — Donald Trump has won the Republican presidential primary in Louisiana.
Trump’s win on Saturday was a blow to Sen. Ted Cruz, who hails from neighboring Texas.
Both Cruz and Trump had campaigned Friday in Louisiana. Cruz has tried to portray himself as the only person who can beat Trump and the best positioned to win the general election.
But in the end, voters like David Benitez in the New Orleans suburb of Metairie gave Trump the nod. Benitez said he was attracted by Trump’s business experience, his stance on border control and a general sense that he would fight for the country.
