Supporters in the room had cheered, applauded and cried as Fox News screens in the room declared him the victor just before 2 a.m.

“That’s God!” one supporter said, pointing and apparently crying.

Muslim-American groups slam Democrats for aligning with Dick Cheney

By Josh Christenson

At least two majority Arab-American groups came out with statements Wednesday morning criticizing the Democrats for aligning with former Vice President Dick Cheney.

"The truth is, a Trump presidency didn’t have to be inevitable," the Abandon Harris movement said in a statement. "Democrats had every opportunity to win this election with ease."

"But instead, they chose to betray their base, to abandon the lives of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, and to align themselves with some of the darkest figures in American history—like Dick Cheney," the group assessed, referencing the former vice president who helped lead the nation through the aftermath of 9/11 and start of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq more than 20 years ago.

"The Democrats made their choice, and they alone are responsible for what happened last night and the consequences it will bring to this country."

The Council on American-Islamic Relations also noted the embrace of "Cheney-era policies" — and even offered praise for former President Donald Trump's promise of peace in the Middle East.

“During the presidential campaign, President-Elect Trump made efforts to connect with Muslim voters in swing states, pledged to end bloodshed in the Gaza, and condemned the Bush/Cheney-era policies that wreaked havoc in the Muslim world," CAIR national executive director Nihad Awad said in a statement.

Trump won predominantly Arab-American city of Dearborn, Michigan

By Josh Christenson

Former President Donald Trump has won the predominantly Arab-American city of Dearborn, Mich., according to new race results released by NBC News.

Trump earned 42.5% of the city's vote total, while Vice President Kamala Harris earned just 36%, per NBC News.

Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein played spoiler in that race, winning at least 18% of the ballot tally. Pro-Palestine, anti-Harris protesters had pushed supporters to vote for the third party candidate to send a message to the White House.

The former president lost the city both in 2016 to Hillary Clinton by a 32-percentage-point margin (63% to 31%), and in 2020 to Joe Biden by a 50-percentage-point margin (74% to 24%).

Harris expected to address supporters at Howard U at 6 p.m.

By Josh Christenson and Caitlin Doornbos

Vice President Kamala Harris will address her supporters at Howard University at 6 p.m.

Local Harris supporters in the DC area received invitations via text message just after 10:40 a.m. inviting them to the historically black college for "an event" with the veep.

The message signed off with unusually reverent words: "with deep appreciation - thank you."

It's unclear whether she has called former President Donald Trump yet to concede.

The 45th and soon-to-be 47th president is on track for a clean sweep of all seven swing states.
