George Papadopoulos, a former Trump campaign aide who pleaded guilty in the feds’ Russia probe, said Monday he’s running for the California congressional seat vacated by Democrat Katie Hill.

Papadopoulos made the announcement Monday on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” after filing paperwork late last month after Hill resigned amid a probe into allegations that she had an inappropriate relationship with a staffer.

“This is a state with tremendous potential. Unfortunately, the governing apparatus and the party in this state has driven it right into the ground,” Papadopoulos said about California, echoing President Trump’s attacks on the Golden State over its liberal policies.

“I have been living here for over a year and a half, and people every single day, when I go and talk around the districts, the state, the country, they tell me we need a candidate to represent the community that has an America First agenda at heart, that supports the president, and if elected to Congress, would propose and enact legislation that would advance this agenda,” he added, signaling a pro-Trump agenda.

Papadopoulos, 32, pleaded guilty in 2017 as part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election interference, admitting that he lied to the FBI.

He was sentenced to 14 days behind bars, fined $9,500 and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service.

The 25th Congressional District covers part of Los Angeles County and had been held by Republicans until Hill’s victory in the 2018 midterms.

Hill, 32, announced her resignation last month amid an ethics probe into allegations she had an inappropriate relationship with a staff member and was involved in a  “throuple.”

She’s admitted to a consensual relationship with a campaign staff member, but denied one with a congressional staff member, which would violate House rules.

Hill has called herself the victim of revenge porn by an abusive husband she is divorcing.

The FBI’s counterintelligence investigation that later became the Mueller probe was triggered, in part, from a tip from an Australian diplomat who had communicated with Papadopoulos.

Papadopoulos told the diplomat, Alexander Downer, during a wine-soaked meeting in London in May 2016 that Russia had thousands of stolen emails that would be potentially damaging to Hillary Clinton.

His lawyers have sought a pardon from the president, though Papadopoulos contends that’s unlikely to happen.

Papadopoulos was the first of five Trump aides to plead guilty as part of Mueller’s investigation and admitted to lying about his conversations with a professor.

He wants the government to declassify material, including authorizations by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court that he contends could prove he was unlawfully targeted.

Attorney General William Barr appointed a US attorney who is conducting a criminal investigation examining the origins of Mueller’s probe.

The investigation is examining what led the US to open a counterintelligence probe into the Trump campaign and the roles that various countries played in the US scrutiny.

Papadopoulos enters a field of at least three other Republicans and one Democrat.

Gov. Gavin Newsom scheduled a March 3 special election to pick Hill’s successor — the same day as California’s Democratic presidential primary, which means a large turnout among the party is likely.

The White House has dismissed Papadopoulous as a lightweight and “coffee boy,” a characterization his camp disputes.
